About Faaborg Minitown

Goals and visions

We want to make Faaborg Miniby something else and more than just "some small houses out by the roundabout and Jem & Fix".

We want to make ourselves an obvious choice not only for the locals but also for Faaborg's tourists and Funen's tourist life as a whole.

We also want to be part of the tourist, cultural and business life that takes place in Faaborg - if you would like to be part of this yourself, contact us.

The history of the building guild

The idea with the MiniCity is to recreate a model of the old Faaborg, as the city looked in 1890. This is done in a ratio of 1 to 10, e.g. if a house was 10 meters long, it would be 1 meter as a built model house. For this, bricks and roof tiles are used, and they are made in a mini brick factory and then fired, so that these can withstand the weather and wind, like all other houses that stand outside all year.

The group's idea is therefore to have an additional tourist attraction for the enjoyment of both tourists and locals.

It is an obvious topic, as the city of Faaborg has many well-preserved houses, which were built in the place where they stand today, and can therefore be seen if there is any doubt about the behavior of the house.

A founding general meeting was therefore held on 12 February 1992. and the association was formed, where Erik Bigersted was elected as chairman, Merete Holck as treasurer, other members were elected, Knud Kristensen, HH Fabricius and Aage Larsen.

Construction was temporarily started at Tømmergården, but today we are housed at Byskolen, in two good rooms, and meet every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Where retirees, pensioners and others with excess time and desire build the houses and everything else for them; also windows and doors and misc. gates.

We also hold a very important coffee break where many of today's issues under the auspices of MiniBy but also societal issues at local, national and world level are discussed (and resolved?).

Workshops and facilities

We generally have very good and functional premises, kindly made available by Faaborg-Midtfyn municipality.

Two high basement rooms with a total of approx. 300 m2 under Den Gamle Byskole is the core of our work in building the houses. Here we have a variety of utensils and tools as well as a meeting room and a small kitchen. It is open every Tuesday and Thursday from 9 - 12 with a very popular coffee break at 10.

Just outside our doors, in Den Gamle Byskole's school yard, the municipality has sacrificed DKK 2.4 million on a park-like courtyard with flower beds and seating areas. And from there there is direct access to the pedestrian network.

On Diernæsvej at the roundabout opposite Jem&Fix, we have the exhibition itself with the current 150 houses.

The exhibition area is 5,400 m2 and Faaborg-Midtfyn Municipality has sponsored a nice new modern building where we have an office/ticket sales, fridge (for packed lunches when you have opening hours), covered terrace closed on 3 sides, parasols and benches/table set, large tool room and a disabled-friendly toilet. Heating of the building and water is done with a solar collector system. The opening hours appear at the bottom of the pages on our website.

In addition to showcasing our houses, we hold events and activities here for locals and tourists. See examples on the website under the section Events in Faaborg MiniCity.
